8. The Incredible Hulk 2008

5. X-Men 2

More action than the first, from the wolverine fights to Night crawler's invasion of the white house. This movie improved on the first in everyway possible and the ending was also very good for setting up what looked like a promising trilogy, little did we know X-Men the last stand would be rubbish.

4. Hancock

Some viewers may disagree, but Hancock had everything a superhero movie should have, some moments of comedy, action, story and strong acting. Will smith's super performance also surprises me in this movie and Hancock deserves its place at number 4.

3. Iron Man

Not knowing much about the character of Iron Man I wasn't sure what to expect when watching the movie. Everything from the character of Tony Stark to the onscreen performances of Downey and Paltrow were enjoyable to watch.

2. Superman the Movie

The original superman movie has everything a superhero movie should have, and considering it was made so long ago and is still rated by many fans as the best Superman Movie to date well that shows how good this movie is. The helicopter scene where the world is first introduced to Superman is amazing and makes me smile every time I watch it. Christopher Reeve pulls of Superman and Clark so well he's still remembered today as one of the best actors to have played Superman. This film will make you believe a man can fly, and for this reason above all( Nod to the fans) Superman The Movie Ranks in at number 2 of all time superhero movies.

And now for the number 1 spot of all time superhero movies... Ghost Rider... Just kidding.

1. Batman Begins

Christopher Nolan can't be thanked enough for making a Superhero movie so good that all the other Batman attempts are wiped from our minds. With the rubbish that came before Batman Begins it's hard to see why any one would want another attempt at a Batman Film, but Nolan did this and the results are amazing. We have a truly believable superhero movie which gets rid of the silly plot lines, silly characters and unbelievable architecture of Gotham and made everything a lot more realistic which benefits this film. Christian Bale is an excellent choice for Batman and also Michael Caine is excellent as Bruce's butler Alfred. Now bring on the sequel

Creating comic book characters is a bit of a touch and go for some artists. Some would often craft dozens of characters, but unfortunately few or even none of these characters would take off, become comic book celebrities or even gain their own cult following. Others, well, they make legends.

Back in 1963, a duo of comic book creators decided to breathe life to a new breed of super heroes and super villains. The duo -- none other than the now renowned geniuses Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Lee, Kirby and other Marvel creators have already made strides in the comic book industry by producing such legendary characters like the Fantastic Four, the Amazing Spider Man, the Avengers, and a whole host of colorful personalities.

But the pair decided that wasn�t enough. Thus, the X Men were born. Created smack dab in the middle of what others considered the renaissance of comic books, the list of X Men characters back then would forever change comic book history.

The X Men characters gained their powers by being born with what the creators coined, the �X factor�. These are imbued in the genetic make up of each character, causing mutations which would forever shape the way how they will live.

Each of the personalities included in the list of X Men characters have their own unique skills and abilities due to their unique genetic make up. But these superhuman powers would also present them with difficulties. Humans became wary of what they would eventually call mutants, even sometimes resorting to outright hostility.

It was a great premise, highly analogous to the problem that pervaded the society during that era â�" racism.

Since their birth back in 1963, the list of X Men characters has undergone almost constant changes. Some characters would leave permanently, while others would take their place. This constant change contributed to the feeling that the series remained fresh despite its age.

Despite these changes, there are those who would remain as staples in the list of X Men characters. Obviously, there are more than 5 great Marvel graphic novels, but here's a small selection of the very finest. The quintet I've chosen are all accessible to anyone, really, and don't require a PhD in Marvel chronology to appreciate.

Marvels

Kurt Busiek's take on the Marvel Universe's New York through the eyes of Daily Bugle photographer Phil Sheldon isn't quite like anything else. The premise is simple: what would it be like to live a normal life in the Marvel world? Beautifully painted by Alex Ross, Buseik's narrative spans several decades of comic history, as Sheldon manages to shoot the biggest events in Marvel comics, from the arrival of Galactus to the death of Gwen Stacy.

Inhumans

When Paul Jenkins took on Jack Kirby's family of metahumans, they were hardly the hottest comic property going. But alongside artist Jae Lee, Jenkins crafted a complex tale that acts as a primer to the Inhumans, while touching upon such subjects as genetic diversity and adolescence metamorphosis. And Magnus the Mad, Black Bolt's insane brother, has to be one of the most brilliant villains in a very long time.

The Sentry TPB

Nowadays the Sentry, or Bob as we've come to know him, is the Marvel Universe's equivalent of Superman, a deus ex machina who numerous writers have exploited as an easy way to end a difficult conflict. This trade paperback collects the miniseries that introduced the character to the MU, as wasted loser Bob Reynolds suddenly recovers memories of fighting alongside the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and many more, as beloved hero the Sentry. But why does nobody else but Reed Richards remember the Sentry? Written by Paul Jenkins with art by Jae Lee.

Old Man Logan

Wanted/Kick-Ass writer Mark Millar and Civil War artist Steve McNiven teamed up once more for this futuristic take on that X-bloke known as Wolverine. 50 years from now, the heroes have fallen and Logan is forced to come out of hiding and once again take down the scum, accompanied by a blind Hawkeye. Unlike much of Millar's recent work, Old Man Logan has a real British feel to it, and evokes some of the finest 2000AD stories, and McNiven's work is incredible.

Daredevil

Ok, not a graphic novel as such, but an entire series collected in over a dozen (and counting) trade paperbacks. Kevin Smith, Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker take blind attorney Matt Murdock down an increasingly dark and tortured path. Unlike many Marvel superheroes, Daredevil actually evolves, and his relationship with Kingpin of Crime Wilson Fisk is one of the most multifaceted in comic book history.

Sneak Peek at Uncanny X-Men 500

I'm 100% an X-Men fan.

I've been amped about Uncanny X-Men's 500th issue as long as I can remember. I remember seeing Batman and Superman and how they had hit all of these high issues and #500 was going to be mine. I was going to be there, and with the rising popularity of the holo-foil-popout-3d-embossed-platinum scratch-n-sniff covers that were the craze in the early 90's, I was set on spending tons of money. I was going to be first in line to buy as many covers and variants and limited editions as possible.

Even after all of the questionable things that these creators have done with my favorite title of all time, even after all of the disappointments, wasted money, time and blown expectations that seem to make the enjoyable experiences so far and few between, I have remained a solid x-fan. I truly love the characters. From Colossus to Nightcrawler to Warpath, Gambit, Longshot... the list goes on and on. I love them all. These were my companions growing up and they taught me so much about morality, friendship, loyalty, teamwork, tolerance and sacrifice.

These are my heroes, and no matter how much Marvel insists on rolling them around in the stink, I'm always going to buy issues like a sucker.

So, I have no place to complain. I've tried to stop buying issues time and again and I always find myself drawn back into it. With all of this being said, I have to admit that The Messiah Complex story arch was by far one of the most compelling in a very long time. It felt like the X-Men I know, though the resolution felt a bit gimmicky.

Newsarama has the scoop on details regarding issue #500:

"On Saturday, at Wizard World Los Angeles, Marvel Comics announced during their X-Men panel that Matt Fraction would be joining Ed Brubaker as co-writer on Uncanny X-Men with issue #500. Joined by artists Greg Land and Terry Dodson, the writers will spell each other off on the series, with Fraction picking up the ball on issues #501-#503, and then Brubaker taking things from there."

We're going to see the X-Men relocating to San-Francisco, operating without Professor X and another change in the lineup. According to Matt Faction:

Matt Fraction: "These people were once the future, and now they're standing on the verge of extinction. And they still defend a world that hates and despises them. The ones that believe in tomorrow are running on faith and fighting off doubt. What's to keep them holding on? That crux at the core of all the characters, in all of its different forms, is what we're going to be looking at. There's a wildly new status quo that speaks to the very heart of who the X-Men are, and who they've always been. Facing the end of the mutant genetic line only serves to magnify that.

Oh! And stuff blows up; everybody has lots of sex, and then dies."

And here we are, heading in a new direction once again. The body count has stacked up, and for once we're seeing it actually impact the characters on more than a superficial level. It's interesting to see where this is heading, but if I have only one thing to say to Marvel, it's this:

Let's skip the hype machine of major events and just get back to telling good stories. This is an opportunity to reinvigorate this brand, and I know that I am not alone in feeling this way. Bring back what we all know the X-Men can be and leave the big gimmicks to the titles that aren't selling well.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the upcoming sequel to the all famous X-men Series which is a superhero film based upon the fictional Marvel Comics character Wolverine. Jackman underwent a high intensity weight training regimen to bulk up for his role. He changed the program to shock the body into change and also performed cardiovascular workouts. He woke up each morning at 4 am to eat one of the small number of protein-based meals he was allowed each day. He wanted to portray Wolverine exactly as he did in the character's cage match entrance in X-Men, stating his inspiration was Robert De Niro in Cape Fear. He noted Wolverine had mellowed during the previous film and looked forward to revisiting a darker time in the character's life. Jackman worked out in a Queenstown gym where he would arrive daily at 6 am. He stayed in character and made noises while exercising. Jackman noted no digital touches were applied to his physique in a shot of him rising from the tank within which Wolverine has his bones coated in adamantium.

X-Men - First Class - Get It First Here

Filming for "X-MEN: First Class" begins this month on Jekyll, an island off the coast in Georgia. An authority of the Island of Jekyll has approved an agreement with Fox of 20th century to film the fifth action movie of X-MEN from the Wonder comics books about super mutant heroes. The Savannah Tomorrow News reported that the producers have agreed to pay the authority of Jekyll island, $16,000 for the use of a 4.5-acre beach to the east of Beachview Handle and the Clam Stream in Georgia. Chris Petrikin, a spokesman for the film said the Island of Jekyll was chosen for its esthetics, and it's local availability to harbor the team.

X-MEN are super heroes in the Wonder Comedian Universe. They were created by writer Stan Reads and the artist Jack Kirby, and first seen in The X-MAN #1 (September 1963).

The basic premise of X-MEN is that under a cloud of feeling that anti mutant intolerance is growing, Professor Xavier creates a refuge in their Westchester mansion. Here mutant youths are coached to utilize their powers to benefit humanity, and to show the world that mutants are really heroes.

Xavier enlisted these mutants because they possess special powers due having the X-GENE. The X-GENE is a normal gene that humans lack. It gives Mutants their special capacities. The "X" in X-MEN signifies this "extra" power. It was alluded to that the powerful mutations were contracted when the mutants were exposed to radiation.

The first enemy of the arch of the team, the Magneto, fought the X-MEN for decades alone. The Mutant Fraternity enemies were eventually introduced in the book #4.

The universe of X-MEN also includes other heroes such as the Glutton, the Storm, the Colossus, the Scoundrel, Nightcrawler, the Gambit, Shadowcat, Frost of Emma, the Anniversary and Psylocke.

Aside from the Mutant Fraternity, others that X-MEN have fought include Apocalypse, Sinister of Mister, the Destructive Force, Sabretooth, and the Flames of the hell Strike.

What is it about superheroes that so ignites the public's sense of excitement and enjoyment?

This summer has already seen a number of superhero movies released. These films will be further complemented by marketing efforts in the area of PC games, console games, as well as books, comics and music and DVD releases. It is highly likely that at least one of these superhero movies and the related spin-offs will once again break all records for profit generated from a movie release.

As a genre, superheroes have been around long time. The word superhero dates to at least 1917. Today, superhero comics are most notably published under the Marvel or DC publishing labels, although there are a myriad of other comics published by other companies as well. What is it that grants the superhero genre such enduring appeal?

By tradition a superhero is a character who possesses powers that are somehow above and beyond the abilities of an ordinary human being. It should be noted though, that there is no absolute requirement for a particular character to possess superpowers as such, all that is required is skills or abilities that go beyond the norm. An example of a superhero character that possesses no true superpowers would be Batman or Green Arrow from the DC comics stable.

One activity that is common to many superheroes, if not all, is the dedication of their powers and abilities in a daily battle to combat threats to humanity and fight against crime. Often superheroes will find a large part of their activities devoted to defeating super villains. These super villains will have powers similar in magnitude to those of the hero themselves. Perhaps it is the magnitude of these powers that make the story is interesting.

The conflicts often portrayed in these stories are certainly well beyond the ability of any normal human to deal with. However the deeper aspects of these stories should not be ignored, as it is not all just energy blasts and explosions. For example, in the X-Men the subject of racism and prejudice is explored. Although the X-Men are heroes and fight on the side of good they are nevertheless frequently persecuted by normal humanity as well as the super villains that oppose them. Despite this opposition and persecution the X-Men define themselves as heroes by an adherence to a strong moral code which keeps them fighting the good fight.

This summer will see the release of the movie based upon the Marvel comic's character called Iron Man. Iron Man 2 will no doubt be yet another financially successful movie to come out of Hollywood. It is the second movie in a trilogy and follows the life of a millionaire playboy called Tony Stark. Part of this financial success will be based upon sales of various PC and console games. The attraction of these games is no doubt based at least in part on the ability of the individual to immerse themselves in the persona of the hero they admire.

Where once the printed word was enough and later illustrated comics came to surpass this, we now have reached the time where those pictures have become photorealistic animations in a 3-D PC game. From these advances, fans of the superhero genre are gaining an ever closer identification with the hero they so admire. Based upon these factors, it looks as though superheroes will remain with us for some time yet to come and superhero movies along with them.

TEENAGE MUTANT X-MEN

The X-Men trilogy is one of the most popular series and grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide. After the 2006's last installment, X-Men: The Last Stand, it would be totally natural to assume that it was done and that future movies would all be prequels such as the upcoming movie X-Men Origin: Wolverine (May 01 2009) and X-Men Origin: Magneto (Still on hold).

Well it seems like it's not the case. Get ready for X-Men: First Class. This time the main mutants (characters) will be teenagers.

Like the X-Men trilogy and the upcoming X-Men Origins, it will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner. Now, the Whoa part, the screenplay will be written by the creator of The OC, Gossip Girl and Chuck: Josh Schwartz. Considering the fact that all three series are hit teen series, Schwartz might actually have a chance. The question is can he handle the action, adventure, sci-fi and thriller? Let's hope.

No plot has released yet but there seem to be three possibilities.

The story might focus on the teenage mutants who appeared in the X-Men Trilogy. That includes: Rogue, Angel, Iceman, Colossus, Shadowcat maybe even NigthCrawler. If that is the case, it might continue from where X-Men: The Last Stand "finished". At the end of X3:

- Magneto, who had been injected with the "cure", was able to shake a metal chess pond slightly, meaning that the vaccine might not have permanent effect and that Rogue's ability to have physical contact with other people, especially her boyfriend, won't be permanent either;

- Professor Xavier might come back in a new body after transferring his mind into the body a comatose patient (who wakes up at the end);

Cyclops and Jean might also come back: it was never confirmed (only assumed) that Jean killed Cyclops; and Jean might also "borrow" a body like Professor Xavier - Or even make one.

Storm will be the head of the Xavier Institute with Wolverine and Beast by her side.

There is a Marvel comic book with the same title featuring young Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Iceman and Beast. The eight-issue series, was published from September 2006 to April 2007 and guest stared many Marvel Universe' superheroes such as Invisible Woman and Thor. The movie might be based on it.

An unlikely possibility is a mixture of both stories.

There was an animated TV series which run for four seasons and features teen mutants titled X-Men: Evolution. The only adults were Professor Xavier, Storm and Wolverine running the Xavier Institute and Magneto, Mystique and Sabretooth with the Brotherhood. At first, they (Xavier Institute and the Brotherhood) are trying to "recruit students with the constant brushes and rivalry followed by prejudice, public misconception when mutants are discovered then they unite to fight Apocalypse. I wish the movie was based on X-Men: Evolution, it was really great.

Schwartz was also asked to direct the movie but he decline, so the director seat is still open. I hope Brian Singer comes back. X-Men 1 and 2 were really great. It would be a nightmare comes true if Brett Ratner directs it.
